me? a hairdresser?

I hadn't really planned on giving the girls haircuts tonight, but that's what ended up happening. After baths I was combing their hair and decided they both needed a haircut toinght. I did Presley first. I go back and forth deciding whether I want to grow her hair out or get a cute bob cut for her. I still don't know what I want to do, but I knew it needed to be straightend up and evened out anyways. She has gone twice to get her hair cut here. I have trimmed her hair before with Chad's help distracting her, but tonight I was on my own as Chad was at work. I plopped her down on the floor with a snack and a cartoon and she did great! I was very surprised because this is the girl who has all the sudden seriously started throwing fits every time I even try to comb her hair. When she was younger she would let me do just about anything with her hair. Now she doesn't even like me to play with it when I'm holding her. I guess the distractions worked because she sat still long enough for me to even use my straightening iron on her hair a little bit. She has this weird kink in the back of her head, so I smoothed it out. I cut probably a little over an inch and a half. Looks good if I do say so myself. Who knew I could trim hair? I can't even trim my own bangs straight! Next was Addison. She did pretty good too, although she isn't quite as still. If I kept something in her hands so she could chew on it, then we were good to go. I was just nervous that she would jerk back when I was trying to cut. Luckily she didn't. Here are a few more of Addison.

She was actually too busy with a phone call to worry about me. :)

basement update

The guy who we hired to mud, tape and sand our drywall has finished! Yeah. We can check that off our list. He did a pretty good job from what we can see. He left a big mess for us to clean up though. There is dust EVERYWHERE! He finished up on Monday and is going to come back over on Thursday to go over it with us to make sure we are happy. Chad has already got the ceiling primed and is working on wiping the walls down so he can start priming and then painting those on Thursday. Thursday night we have a guy coming over to measure the basement and stairs for carpet. Before carpet is laid down we need to have the basement painted (so that means we need to decide on what color we want), the trim painted and up, and hopefully the doors up and the drop ceiling in. I'm not sure the doors will be done or the ceiling up, but it would be nice if we could finish those things before the carpet comes so we don't have to be so careful. We will have at least a couple of weeks before carpet is in because we haven't picked it out yet or obviously ordered it. He is just coming to give us an estimate on labor costs. We wanted to find that out before we picked out the carpet so we had an idea how much we were spending.

So, the ball is definitely rolling. Now we seem to be on fast-forward trying to finish it. The problem is, Chad is still coaching. Plus he is working at Driver's Ed some and I am hosting my monthly euchre group at our house tomorrow, so we are busy. Chad only has about 3 weeks left of coaching until next year, so he will have more time then. I know he is getting anxious to get his new TV for the basement. He thinks he will be better at his game if he has a bigger TV. I'm not convinced. As I was telling my sister-in-law the other day because our basement is packed away, that means he has his game packed away too. It's been nice not having him playing all the time, but at the same time, when he played is usually when I was on the computer or catching up on my shows. Now that he isn't playing, that means I am not on the computer much and am falling behind on my shows. Thank goodness for TiVo. :)

I'll try and post pictures of our basement after it is painted, hopefully this weekend.

Valentine dresses

Remember how I told you it was hard to get a decent shot of the girls together now. Here is a perfect example. I wanted to get a shot of them together in their Valentine dresses and this is what I got. Presley LOVES holding Addison, but thinks it is hilarious to fall over while holding her. She just giggles so much and takes Addison down with her. Oh well.

As for the matching dresses I am so thankful that my sister has twin girls who were born around the same time of the year as my girls. I am even more thankful that one of the girls is about a head taller than the other so their clothes are working out great for my girls to have matching or similar clothes. I don't know how long it will last though because Addison is getting so big now!

Can you guess who took this picture?

As I was loading pictures from our camera onto the computer last night I found this one. I wonder who took it? I know I didn't. The other day I found Presley in the dining room hiding under the table. Chad had plugged the cameras in to charge in there and she got one of the cameras. She must've taken it then. I noticed that she had turned it on, but didn't realize she had taken a picture. How funny. I showed her this morning and she got a big smile on her face and said, "Hi, Kenny!" (Kennedy)

My lucky day.

Saturday night we went to another trivia night. This time it was at Mishawaka's F.O.P. We had lots of fun again. We actually did better this time around. We ended up in 6th place (10 points off the leader). There were over 40 teams there, so I thought we did great! AND we did it without any Mulligans (free answers). We could have bought up to 5 Mulligans and used one on each round. We decided not to get any, so considering almost every other team used them, I was very happy with how we did. We enjoyed seeing Kathy and Kevin even though we didn't get to talk much. Again, we had a great time with friends and accomplished our trivia goals:
  • Have fun!
  • Don't come in last.

And to top it off they were giving away door prizes and the very last one of the night they called Table 35 - Amber Brugh. YEAH!! I never win anything. I won this wonderful treasure chest of Satin Hands and lip glosses from Mary Kay. So happy.

caged up

We had to move Queenie's cage upstairs into our bedroom while the guy was working on our basement. I took the girls upstairs to play in our room while I was putting laundry away and this is where I found Presley when I was finished hanging up the clothes in the closet. She was holding the door closed because she didn't want me to get her out and she couldn't get it to latch. She was actually yelling at me "NO" when I tried to get her out. Silly girl.

look out below!

Just wanted to tell you all to check out the posts below. 7 in one day! That has to be some kind of record!

dancing queen

A friend from Day Care, Katie, brought a Hannah Montana cd for the kids to listen to. Presley has fallen in love with Hannah and will dance like crazy when she is listening to her songs. She moves so fast the camera can't keep her in focus, but you get the idea. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday to Me!

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me celebrate my 29th birthday over the weekend. It's still hard for me to remember how old I am. I have to think of the year and count. I guess it's just not a big deal to me. Next year I don't know if I'll be saying the same thing about it not being a big deal. 30 sounds quite a bit different than 29. It's a little scary for me to think about. I guess I have a little less than 365 days to get used to the sound of 30.

I had a great time celebrating 29. I was lucky enough to go out to eat with Chad's family (minus Ben and the boys - they were in Indy at wrestling finals) on Friday night to Olive Garden (my favorite). On Saturday Chad took me out to dinner at Carrabas while my parents watched the girls. Then on Sunday we had a surprise going away party for Chad's aunt and uncle with his Brugh family and then for dinner we went out with my family to Red Lobster (Chad's favorite). After dinner they came back to our house for Dairy Queen's ice cream cake another of my favorites. :) I am a lucky girl. I loved every bit of eating out and not having to cook. I ended up getting a little sick, but thankfully I was still able to taste! :)

Thanks for all your well wishes, cards, and gifts. I appreciate you all.

doing the Addison

Presley thinks it's hilarious to lay on her tummy and lift her arms and legs in the air and flair like Addison does. She has named it the Addison. Now we ask her to do the Addison and she will get down and do it. Here's her attempt.

talking, talking, talking

Miss Presley is quite the little talker now. She is almost always saying something. Most of it we can understand but sometimes she is just talking in her own little language. I have been trying to write down the things she says during the day so I don't forget. Here are a couple from the last few days.

  • Tonight after she had a big drink she burped and said "guze me."
  • We were then cleaning up our dinner and she was playing so cute on the floor with Addison so I of course got out the camera and started taking pictures. She said to me, "no pictures mommy, jammies on." Oh no, she can't be sick of pictures already. Sorry to say, she's got a lot more years of pictures coming up. :)
  • While climbing up the stairs to get her jammies she again said "eight" when we got to the 8th step.
  • When we were getting her jammies on she asked, "coming home daddy?" Sure enough Chad was on his way home from his last regular season game with girls.
  • We have started doing time-outs with her when she doesn't listen. For some reason she has a hard time saying sorry. She will repeat almost any word we ask her to, but sorry and please she always says "NO!" Well tonight after one of her time-outs (yes, she had more than one) I asked her to say sorry and she of course said "NO!" but she did say "pray?" (I think I was folding my hands while I was talking with her, so she must've thought that's what we should do.) Anyways, since she asked I prayed with her (something like help me to be a good girl and listen to mommy) and when we were finished she yelled "Amen!" That was the first time she had said that. Chad was sitting on the couch and he even heard her. I then gave her big hugs and kisses and she was able to get up.
  • When she got up this was our conversation:

P - "bye"

Me - "Where you going?"

P - "bafhroom"

Why? I don't know. But it was funny. She had to wave and blow kisses on her way to the "bafroom." :)

just the small stuff...

was stolen by the guy finishing our basement. ;) Just kidding. Everything was here when I got home. Looks like they got a lot done on our basement too! Yeah. Chad called when he got home and it sounds like they will be here again almost all day tomorrow. He hopes to have everything finished by Saturday. We are looking forward to having everything taken care of. There is still lots to do even after the guy finishes up with his part. Here's the office/playroom so far.

a quick funny

Yesterday Chad was on the phone with a guy who is going to mud and tape our basement for us. We don't really know this guy, a friend of Chad's set him up with us. He had done his friends basement on the side. Now the guy is doing this full time, anyways, they were trying to work out the details of how/when, etc.. Chad was asking when he was going to come and how long he would work each day so he could try and have someone be at the house. Chad was telling him that he couldn't have anyone at the house today and the guy told Chad that normally people just leave him a key to get into their house. Chad then asked "Do we have to worry about anything coming up missing?" I was sitting next to Chad on the couch and just started laughing. It was so funny. I mean, really what is this guy going to say? "Uh, yeah, you might want to hide your expensive things because they might not be there when you get back home. We have a tendency to steal." I asked Chad if he thought the guy would really say that. Maybe he does steal, but I guarantee he doesn't admit it. I thought it was hilarious. It made me smile the rest of the night whenever I re-played that phone conversation in my head.

The guy started our basement this morning and said he would be there most of the day. I'll let you all know if we have anything left in our house when I get home after work. ;)

Have a great one!

Are you kidding me?

That's what Chad asked this morning when the phone rang. He had just gotten in the shower and I was already up and ready and about ready to get the kids up when we got the call that school was cancelled AGAIN! Apparently when they called school off this morning, it was -7 degrees. We are the only school in the area that is closed. I guess we need to get buses for our kids, so they don't have to walk. We started our school year this year a year a week early so we could finish up at the end of May. It looks like the rate we are going we won't be finished any early. Oh well, I won't complain too much, I enjoy these days off! I just wish I would find out before I dragged myself out of bed. I love sleeping in! This has been quite the last two weeks. We have been off school 5 out of the last 10 days. I was telling Chad, it was to bad they weren't all in a row!

a little late

Happy Valentine's Day

( I know a little late, but better late than never, right?)

Because we didn't have school yesterday on Valentine's Day, I saved the girls Valentine's shirts for today to wear to their party with Grandma. Addison is looking like such a big girl now. I can't believe it. It's sooooooooo (do you understand my frustration?) hard to get Presley to sit still long enough to get a decent picture. IF she is sitting still, then she isn't looking at me. sigh. This is about the best I got and you can see around her mouth we had to bribe her with a little chocolate to even get her to sit still. It's just as, if not more difficult to get a good one of both of the girls. I can do ok one at a time, but getting them both to look decent, double sigh. They both made out like bandits at their party. Lucky for us, they aren't allowed to eat much candy at all, so Chad and I had a little snack tonight. :)

On a side note, every night while walking Presley upstairs to put her to bed, we count the stairs as we are climbing up them. Tonight she surprised me by saying "eight" and "eleven" when we were on the eighth and eleventh step. She will sometimes count "one-two-three" but that's as far as she has done before. I count each one out loud and she will repeat, but she said "eight" and "eleven" at the same time as me tonight. So smart.

Frosty the Snowman

or maybe not Frosty, but a snowman, well, maybe not even really a true snowman, but you get the idea. When we got back home this afternoon Chad went outside and tried to build a snowman for Presley. He was finally able to use the snowman building kit (similar to this) that we got Presley for Christmas. She is in love with Frosty and with snowmen in general. Well, the snow wasn't the greatest for making snowmen it wouldn't pack well at all, but he did his best and it was good enough for Presley. Presley didn't get to help Daddy out because the sun wasn't out and it was getting kind of cool. She also doesn't have boots or snow pants yet because it hasn't been warm enough for her to be out much anyways. She did get to go out and meet the snowman after Chad was finished. She made sure to say "Hi snowman" several times. Chad built it right in front of our front door, so she can go and check out the snowman anytime she wants. For some reason she calls it a "baby snowman", she must not think it's big enough. We have thoroughly enjoyed these last two days being home with snow days, although it looks like we will be heading back tomorrow. Looking forward to the 3 day weekend.

Happy Half-Birthday To My Baby Girl!

Tomorrow, February 9th is my little Addy's 1/2 birthday. At school each morning our principal says the announcements and then also mentions the birthday of kids and staff that day. This year she has also started announcing 1/2 birthdays for kids whose birthdays are in the summer when we are off for break. I noticed this morning that they were saying August 8th birthdays and I realized that tomorrow would be Addison's 1/2 birthday.

I thought I would share some memories. You can stop reading here if you don't care to hear about all of the details ... :) WARNING - this may get long.

I can't believe it's been a 1/2 year already. I still remember being sooo pregnant, trying anything to go into labor (like walking around the zoo carrying a 14 month old two days before I was due) and anxiously waiting to meet her. My pregnancy with her seemed to last soo much longer. I think it's because I found out so early that I was pregnant with her. With Presley I was almost 2 months along before I found out, and with Addison I was about 2 weeks! I can't complain about my pregnancies with either of my two kids. I was very lucky or blessed I guess that the worse I had was heartburn and occasional upset stomach. Well, after the walking didn't work to start my labor I convinced my Dr. to induce my labor a day before my due date because Chad would be starting back at school soon and they also knew with Presley my fluid levels started to decrease towards the end. I think Chad was more happy than I was because you all know how he is a planner and likes to know exactly what is going on and when. In fact with Presley, he even asked me early on in the pregnancy if I could schedule a C-section just so he would know what day and time. My Dr. decided that everything looked good, and the baby was ready to come. It was Friday morning, August 9, I was supposed to get up and call the hospital at 6:30 to make sure they had room for me. I was so thankful they had room! We finished packing up everything we needed and everything Presley would need. We dropped Presley off with Grandma and friends at Day Care. She didn't realize this day was any different. We got up to the hospital around 7:30 and they got me right in. I was already contracting on my own and didn't even realize it. Labor went pretty fast again. I opted for an epidural again this time. I wasn't quite as lucky with that this time. With Presley the Dr. who put it in was wonderful and I couldn't feel a thing. This time, was another story.... I knew it wasn't good when the Dr. was so rough in the cleaning of my back that I was crying already. As Chad tells it, it looked like the Dr. was putting my epidural in with a jackhammer. It hurt! And, it wasn't quite as strong. I could still feel plenty. I suppose it could've been that Addison decided to come out sunny-side up which she wasn't supposed to. Thankful all worked out well. Addison was born early that evening. She looked a lot like Presley we thought. Same hair, same face, just a little bigger a pound to be exact. We made sure that Chad was able to bring Presley into the room first to meet Addison before the rest of the family. Presley wasn't sure what to think at first. She just kept saying, "baby." I think she was more interested in playing with mommy's remote control for the bed and the tv.

Fast forward to now... Addison is such an easy baby and has been pretty much from the start. She is very laid back. She loves to watch her big sister play and will squeal when she sees Presley or Queenie. She thinks Daddy's faces are so funny and will giggle at him. She is just now beginning to really get a belly laugh, and we love it. She usually will give big smiles to just about anyone who pays attention to her. She loves to roll over and thinks just because she knows how she needs to do it every time I lay her down. The problem with this is, she isn't a big fan of tummy time still, so when I lay her down on her back she instantly rolls to her tummy, but yet she sometimes forgets she knows how to roll off of her tummy. :) She can sit up by herself and is a wonderful singer. No teeth yet, but I'm sure it won't be long. Mommy doesn't mind that yet. :O Addison has fit in perfectly to our family and we can't imagine it without her here. We can't wait to see what is next for you. You are getting so big and are learning more everyday. We love you Addison!

What's in here?

Presley loves to "get into" everything. When I get ready in the mornings, she is in the bathroom pulling out everything from under the sinks, when I am making dinner, she is pulling all the towels out of the drawer in the kitchen, and today when I was putting groceries away, she decided to check out the pantry. She was in there awhile, so she had to sit down and take a break while eating her snack.

Pickles & Cottage Cheese

Throw in a few grapes and call it supper. That's what Miss Presley had for dinner tonight, pickles, cottage cheese, and grapes. Sounds great doesn't it? No, that's not all I gave her for dinner, but that's all she decided she was going to eat, besides the few bites of my sandwich she ate. She wasn't sure about the pickle at first...but after a few bites she was loving it and even asked for another one. Cottage cheese is still considered a finger-food in her opinion. She would reach in and get bite and offer it to me first and then shove it in her mouth.
After she was done with dinner we went upstairs and took a bath. Have you noticed that she doesn't get cottage cheese unless it's bath night. (That's not a coincidence.)

froze-in and frozen

That pretty much describes how we have been since Friday. Boy has winter come with a force this week. This is our neighbors car stuck in their driveway. The girls and I haven't left the house once since we came home after work on Friday afternoon. Chad has left a couple of times to run to the grocery store, get gas and then some pizza for us tonight for the Super Bowl. We had plans on leaving and running errands on both Saturday and today as well as going to church this morning, but the weather has just been TOO COLD to venture out with two little girls. In fact, our alarm clock has the inside temperature as well as the outside temperature on it and last night when I got up to feed Addison I noticed that it was -4 degrees and that wasn't taking into the account the wind chill. It is COLD! Tonight is actually supposed to be even colder. This afternoon we got word that our schools are even closed tomorrow, and we NEVER cancel school it seems. It's just too cold. The main reason I think we closed so early is because we don't have buses. Most of our kids walk to school, and they decided it just wasn't safe. So, now we get another day to hibernate. :) Here is Presley trying to look out at the snow. It was so bright she asked for her glasses. She wants to go out and play in the snow but we haven't been able to yet. Hopefully it will get a little warmer soon so she can enjoy the snow.

We stayed warm today having a nice fire all day. Presley is doing great around the fire. She knows it's hot and she isn't supposed to go near it. In fact, she will go to one of us and then say, "hot". Then she blows on the fire, like she does her food when we tell her it's hot. It's the cutest thing. I do think she is getting a little stir crazy. I think she's getting bored with only Mommy, Daddy, and Addy to play with. She walked the circle around our stairs many times today. She kept wanting someone to walk with her, so she would come over to Chad or I and say, "Gup" (get up). I guess she wants some company on her walks besides just her babies (Chloe, Brooklyn & Kennedy).

Christmas Morning

This video is a little late, but since we just figured out how to put it on the blog, I thought I'd share it anyways. This is from Christmas morning when Presley is finding what Santa left for her. Not the greatest of videos, but you get the idea. She loves that baby and her kitchen too! I love her "bed-head" look. Her hair bouncing as she walks... :)
