spring break.

Lovely, isn't it?

I think it's especially nice with the Easter flag...how fitting...snow and Easter. They so go together?!
We lost power this morning at 3, which led Chad to have an early morning Wal-Mart run to pick up a generator. Of course as soon as he got the generator hooked up, we started smelling something burning. One of the sump-pump's was getting overworked and started heating up. Thankfully after giving it a bit of a rest, it worked fine. We got quite a bit of flooding in the basement, but it could've been much worse. We rented a professional carpet dryer

and also have an industrial fan (thanks Ben) going

along with 2 of our regular fans. We have most of the stuff up off the ground, and wax paper under anything still on the ground so it doesn't stain the carpet. The water would just swish around each step we took in the basement. There was lots of it, that's for sure. Chad has
extracted at least 15 bucket-fulls of water from the shampooer today, and we probably need to do it again tonight. It doesn't look like it's up the drywall, just the carpet so far. It wasn't fun. We were basically up from 3 until close to 8 when the power finally came back on. And of course, that was just about the time the girls got up for the day. ;) Now we are just crossing our fingers hoping it dries out completely and there isn't any permanent damage.

Yikes! We've had a bit of water in our basement lately too, but nothing compared to you guys! We just have our dehumidifier running in that part of the basement and it's working to keep the carpet dry. Kevin is planning on digging up the side of the house to see if he can find cracks in the foundation, or at least just slope all the dirt away from the house (whenever he's in town long enough). Sounds like you have a big job ahead of you too! Good luck with getting everything dry!
