school updates

I received a call from a parent of one of my students Saturday evening at home around 7:30. At first I was a little annoyed that a parent was calling me at home on the weekend, but as soon as she started talking I could tell something was serious. Apparently one of my students was crossing the street and was hit by a truck. He was thrown about 20 feet. His parents had been gone for the week on a cruise. When they got the call they were on their way back, but still only in Georgia. He was taken to the hospital and immediately went to surgery to fix his femur. It was snapped in two. He had some leakage from his ear that they are watching to make sure it's not spinal fluid. They are thinking it is just an ear infection that he had before the accident. His blood sugar was high too, so they are watching that too to make sure his pancreas is ok. They thought it could be high due to the stress of the accident. His mom didn't make it up to see him until the next morning. I just kept thinking how awful that drive up must have been for her. He seemed to be doing ok when I talked with her today. He had gotten up and tried out a wheelchair. He can't walk at all for at least 6 weeks, so we aren't sure when he will be back at school. I'm not sure if he will come when he is on crutches or what will happen. If you think of it, please pray for John and his family.

One more school prayer request.... that student of mine who left....he's back! Today was his first day back. He got kicked out of his other school (private). Wasn't a good start today. Threats to myself, other students, names called, wooden stools thrown, noises made during stories, papers thrown at me while teaching, not good. I have a meeting tomorrow to see what we can do to help him. It's beyond frustrating when my class has been working SO hard to learn our procedures. I have a rough class to say it nicely, and they have all been working so hard and then he comes back and it changes everything. The kids know they aren't allowed to say/do those things, and this kid does it all day long. Frustrating. Hopefully it will get better. If you think of it, pray for him, the class and me as well.

Small world... My mom told me about the accident just yesterday. He is a distant relative and the news came through the family grapevine. What a coincidence that he's in your class this year...

Will keep the family in my prayers...that is so sad. As for the little boy in your class...I'll be praying for that as well. Keep your head up and just keep hoping for the best each day. Hopefully, it'll get better soon.
